<info>The Simpsons has been on TV for 20 years, longer than many of us have been in the User Experience field, and they have been continuously ahead of their time as it relates to UX, by way of poking fun of it by doing things oh-so-wrong. Discover the lessons that The Simspons have taught us about the dangers of bad design, bad UX methods, and why you shouldn't stand in the way of a t-shirt cannon.

And yes, we will watch clips from the show! For educational purposes only! Not entertainment! Patent-pending!</info>

<info>When you're shaping a user experience, what tune do you sing—typography? Interaction affordances? Taxonomy? Keyword enrichment? Whatever your area of focus, content strategy can help you more clearly understand your client's needs, articulate your approach, and align your tactical decisions with an overall brand-driven, user-centered message architecture.

Drawing cues from this year's heightened focus on content strategy, Margot will address how content strategy differs from just copywriting and how you can incorporate insights from this aspect of interaction design into your next project. Discover how the questions a content strategist brings to the table can enrich your deliverables, learn how your collaboration can benefit your end users, and discuss ways to reframe the RFP to upsell content strategy in your next pitch and bring a new partner into the project. If you're a designer, IA, search engine marketer, or any type of social media or web strategy consultant, learn how insight to content strategy can rock your work from a new angle.</info>

<info>Sex and Design Axioms describes the minimal rule set for designing interfaces: the foundational concepts that are required knowledge for designers and engineers to create usable and elegant interfaces.

A production stratification has evolved into stove-piped disciplines from information architecture to user experience to interaction design to usability to graphic design much to the detriment of designers. Emerging is the Renaissance interface designer: a technically savvy artist that’s fluent in typography, color theory, composition, layout, usability, interaction design, and code.</info>

<info>Everyone wants an "intuitive" interface: the users, the designers, and the content publishers. But building them is hard. User Interface Engineering's recent research has given insight into why it's hard and how to get past major obstacles.

To build an "intuitive" interface, a designer has to do two things: (1) Take complete advantage of what the user already knows, so what they see is completely familiar to them and (2) make the act of learning anything new completely imperceptible to the user. It turns out, if the interface requires the user to realize they are learning something, the "intuitive" label disappears instantly.

In this talk, Jared will show:

  - How users need both tool knowledge and domain knowledge to complete their tasks
  - How simple problems with designs can cause big problems for users
  - What successful teams are doing to create experiences that delight

Jared will show examples from Microsoft Word, MSN, Google Talk, Flickr, Avis, and many more.</info>
