Refresh 021 — The Future of Data 4.48 http://spkr8.com/t/1476

Description:

The future of data is more uncertain than ever – traditional, server-based relational databases are being assaulted from all sides, by document-oriented databases and other forces, and by HTML5 and client-side storage. Come and learn about these attacks on the status quo, and maybe we can all bring peace to the database landscape, together.

I wasn't expecting to get much out of this talk because I am a designer and don't work directly with databases, but I was pleasantly surprised. The first half was easy for me to understand and the entire presentation was interesting. Even when Ben was diving into details that were over my head, his sense of humor and simple metaphors kept my attention. He has a very relaxed and enjoyable stage presence. If I had to pick something for him to improve on, it would be to slow down a little bit when talking so those having trouble following along have more time to process ideas and take notes.

Thanks Ben, really enjoyed the talk. Lots of valuable higher level content (for those who aren't working directly with databases) mixed with lots of specifics (for those who are). Feel like I've got solid context around this now and I'm eager to keep an eye on how the topic and solutions evolve.
