The Joy of Ruby 3.67 http://spkr8.com/t/1757

Description:

Yukihiro Matsumoto, the creator of Ruby, has summed up Ruby's philosophy as "Ruby is designed to make programmers happy." How can that happiness cut your development time, reduce your defects, and work closer with your customers?

In this talk, Clinton will cover both the Ruby language and the community of developers behind it. He will walk through an introduction to the Ruby programming language and then show how the common values of the Ruby community tie in with the values of agile development. You will learn why the team at Viget chose Ruby as their development platform and why you might want to consider doing the same.

I'm a huge fan of viget.com, and was greatly anticipating Clinton's talk. Having never used Ruby or Rails, it was over my head, but Clinton dumbed it down enough so the n00bs had a clue what he was talking about. A major factor that I took away from his speech and using Ruby/Rails was how much that played/is playing into the culture at viget.com. I knew of viget because they are renowned in the front-end world as being at the forefront/cutting-edge; I think Ruby/Rails is indirectly the source for their creative/professional freedom. To sum up, Clinton made a great speech, really shed some light on a language that seems to be propelling a lot of great companies and products, and displayed how powerful Ruby/Rails use can be in your ogranization.
