Evolving Your Git Workflow 4.37 http://spkr8.com/t/282

Description:

Git has attracted many developers away from various centralized source control tools, but it’s easy to find yourself using Git like a slightly-better variant of your old VCS. “You don’t even have to be online to commit. Cool!” That’s a nice touch, but Git has way more to offer, and by picking up a few intermediate and advanced Git techniques, you can save a ton of time (and sanity) for yourself and your team.

OK, it's only the second presentation of the day, but I don't know that any of the rest can beat it. I think I never want to use svn again.

Good info for a newbie coming from a very long Clearcase background.

Automating git bisect was worth the price of admission alone. But git add --patch too!

The explanation of git branches was fantastic. It's hard to make a talk about version control inspiring, but this did it.

Jason approached this with the perfect level of detail for me - someone who knows the git basics but is looking for the most useful features to take it to the next level. Great talk!

we've been using Mercurial some time (gosh, it seems like forever) now, and i've been mostly ignoring the Git hype. After this talk, I want to switch!

The Git history is stored in such a way that the name of a particular revision (a "commit" in Git terms) depends upon the complete development history leading up to that commit. Once it is published, it is not possible to change the old versions without it being noticed. The structure is similar to a hash tree, but with additional data at the nodes as well as the leaves.sample sales letter

It interesting that Git has attracted many developers away from various centralized source control tools, I would be happy to attract such developers as well but instead I am searching for a replacement for the grp99 grill that was good as long as it worked and perhaps one of those grill pans that are made of light metals would do a good job. Anyhow, it was a pleasure to read the content on this website, hope to find more.
