Description:
Software engineering as it's taught in universities simply doesn't work. It doesn't produce software systems of high quality, and it doesn't produce them for low cost. Sometimes, even when practiced rigorously, it doesn't produce systems at all. That's odd, because in every other field, the term "engineering" is reserved for methods that work.

Excellent talk highlighting that as software engineers we do not fit the mold of other engineering disciplines. That isn't to say we can't crib lessons from them, but we need to understand what makes our discipline unique, and work towards that uniqueness.

Glenn is an excellent speaker and his talks always show a depth of knowledge and experience that is hard to find.
His talk was inspiring to me to strive to bring a "method to the madness" that software engineering can be sometimes.
