Tools like Cucumber encourage driving new pieces of functionality through tests which cut through the entire Rails web stack, including the database. As a consequence these Acceptance tests can be quite slow. This leaves us in a dichotomy, you want to keep adding new features to your product and you want to maintain rapid test feedback. Somethings got to give. So how do we scale Acceptance tests?
One of the things I wanted to get out of Railsconf was seeing how others were using Cucumber. I had watched a video of one of Joseph's previous presentations and thought it was great. I was really excited walking into the ballroom and hearing his accent. Awesome content, same as the video I had seen. Made me want to grab a couple of Cucumber gems and make my test suite better, faster, leaner. I learned a lot. Thanks Joseph!
