Pyramid of Needs was great!
Loved the Pyramid of Needs you mentioned! So true that oftentimes, management has overly bought into the idea that compensation is not a motivator, but recognition is, and then think they can underpay and give out silly awards. I have long thought that lack of compensation is a huge de-motivator, and your analogy with oxygen is right on. Sometimes you don't realize how important it is until there is not enough of it.
