Be a Better Developer (CINNUG) 4.85 http://spkr8.com/t/4333

Description:

As a developer you end up wearing a lot of different hats: researcher, designer, janitor, mediator, teacher, student… the list can go on. You likely juggle these hats almost every day and we haven't even mentioned writing a line of code yet. If you want to become a better developer you'll have to learn how to switch these hats out easily and what it means to wear each one well. Most talks often focus on a given technology or tool; some resource that you can use. This talks focuses on how to improve the best resource you have: YOU. Come hear how you can improve yourself by learning, teaching and, yes, even being lazy.

Mike, Sorry I don't have any constructive criticism for you--it was all good. Actually, there is something about your talk that Steve Weaver and I were discussing: Deep Dive vs. Jack-of-All-Trades. I fall into the latter category. I don't disagree about deep diving into something, but my concern is you have to carefully pick the technology. You mentioned all the products Microsoft released this year (not to mention other vendors' releases). You also emphasized Change. With technologies coming into and out of favor so quickly, it would have been interesting if you expanded your talk to include some principles on how to pick the right thing to deep dive into (while we were waiting for the pizza ; )

Good talk with lots of good ideas and backup support at Cincinnati Ins. You fell into a bad habit of ending most sentences with the word "right". It's easy to tell you enjoy speaking!
