Description:
The Koans walk you along the path to enlightenment in order to learn Ruby. The goal is to learn the Ruby language, syntax, structure, and some common functions and libraries. We also teach you culture. Testing is not just something we pay lip service to, but something we live. It is essential in your quest to learn and do great things in the language.

Thank you for sharing with us about Ruby/Ruby on Rails. I really appreciate all your efforts to make this a great event. I had no prior experience with Ruby and this truly helped me broaden my understanding where it fits in our world of technology.

Jim, great session as always, thanks for volunteering your time. The only suggestions I have are to maybe add 1/2 hr so you can include more upfront info on the language and/or a short talk in the middle once people have their feet wet. Also, I wonder if there is/could be a handy one page summary of the Ruby syntax.

Jim, you did a great job of gently leading us Ruby novices into new technology territory. When I heard about koans and enlightenment and karma, it sounded like I had to join a cult to practice Ruby, but you didn't get carried away with that. The method (the koans) was a very effective approach to learning the concepts (there's not substitute for good examples, conbined with some hands-on experience to get the muscle memory working). You also presented very well at the Agile conference.
