MVC gives us total control over markup in ASP.NET. Or in other words, you better learn how to turn HTML into something pretty. Luckily, there is a great framework to help us out: jQuery UI! We will take a look at using jQuery UI to do exactly that. We will start with simple HTML markup and transform it into interactive widgets with very little code. jQuery UI widgets add style and behavior to otherwise drab markup without changing its semantics. We will also look at Wijmo, a new toolkit that extends jQuery UI. Wijmo brings over 30 widgets to jQuery UI from Menus to SVG Charts, 18 of which are Open Source. Both jQuery UI and Wijmo can take your Views from boring to brilliant in ASP.NET MVC. After this session you will be ready to start putting the V in MVC!

Turned out to be a sales presentation--with a very hefty price tag. With as many open tools and technologies are out there, this wasn't what I expected or hoped for when digging into standardizing and cleaning up views.

Likewise, here (I agree with Mr. Longnecker); was disappointed that the stuff he was presenting was all for sale (and expensive)! While impressive in capability, I'm not about to shell out cash. I kinda feel like my time was stolen from me.

Great presentation, and I didn't mind the sales aspect of it. It exposed us to some available improvements. I think the widgets would be worth paying for. Not everything is free... Great presence...

Apologies if it seemed like a sales pitch. That was not my intention. I hope everyone at least got the message of the session:

Create your own HTML and enhance it with jQuery UI.

jQuery UI is a free tool.

Wijmo Open is a set of 18 completely free widgets.

But yes, Wijmo Complete is not free. It is an extremely useful product that offers really powerful widgets for building rich UI.

Note: You do not need Wijmo Complete to start practicing this clean View practice. You can use jQuery UI, Wijmo Open and any other jQuery widgets/plugins you want.

I really hope everyone goes out and tries this approach. It makes for awesome Views.

in the beginning it felt like a sales pitch, until you realize the items are free!! YAY! Then it became a blessing. Awesome tips on how to trick out your page without digging into the CSS or photoshop etc. The presenter was excited about his presentation which made me excited about doing more Jquery. Thumbs up!
