Description:

The only constant in life is change. How do we prepare for change? Should we? In this session, I will go over changes relating to the smallest unit in our code base up into our careers. What does DRY really mean? When is too much YAGNI too much? When is it not enough? Should I change where I work or change where I work? The intention of this session is to open ourselves to change, understand how to make the change we would like to see and how to be the change we want to see in the world. This session is a frank and open discussion of software craftsmanship, career building and the nature of existing in the world of software development.

Leon's "Change" talk was one of the best talks I've seen in a long time. As the speaker coordinator for the event (as well as the event MC), I knew when I received the abstract that it was going to be good and Leon absolutely delivered! He is a very dynamic and engaging speaker. Great job Leon!

Powerful and effective, Leon's talk on change was one of the most inspiring presentations I've experienced. Leon fluidly transitions between a little bit of comedy and a dramatic delivery, offering quite an impression to the audience. Very well done.

Leon Gersing's talk, given during a rolling thunderstorm, had perhaps the greatest impact on the audience at Kalamazoo X. First starting in code, he talked about accomodating change in our lives. Change in our workplace, or perhaps even the place we work. Ultimately, he reminded us that we should be open and prepared for change. Resistance is futile. He ended with this excellent quote: "It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory." --W. Edward Demming
