An Introduction to CSS 2.1 and CSS 3 4.48 http://spkr8.com/t/796

Description:

Attendees will learn about CSS 2.1 and CSS 3, how they can simplify front-end development, reduce the amount of code they write, and add nice visual attributes for visitors who are using a good web browser while degrading nicely for visitors who aren't. They'll also see HTML and CSS demonstrations for many of the selectors, properties, and values available in CSS 2.1 and CSS 3.

Marc's presentation on CSS 2.1 & 3 was great for audience members of any skill level. For me, it was more of a review of CSS features, but a good one at that. For others, I'm sure it was the first time they saw some of the great things that are coming to browsers in the (hopefully) near future.

What I really liked about Marc's presentation was that every slide that mentioned a CSS property had CSS code, HTML code, the output and the browser support. Concrete examples in the browser demos were also a nice touch, though I felt that real life examples might be even more effective in getting his points across.

His delivery was rather smooth and included a fake Blue Screen of Death as a joke, which seemed to garnish a few laughs and lightened the mood. He managed to cover a fairly dry topic at an upbeat pace that kept the attendees interested (one woman fell asleep, but I bet she was dreaming about CSS).

Was there room for improvement? There usually is. But Marc's first pass at this topic was really well done and I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and the discussion afterwards.

Agree with Patrick - this was a well put together talk. The slides were thoughtfully assembled and followed a clear pattern which gave Marc the freedom to interweave jokes, examples, and Q&A.

Always room for improvement - in this case the delivery could have been smoother. But Marc Amos was humble, kind, confident and humorous throughout the whole event - which sets him far apart from many other speakers.
