From callbacks to $.Deferred to $.Callbacks 3.65 http://spkr8.com/t/8465

Description:

If you're into asynchronous programming, you'll love jQuery 1.7! Not only do Deferreds gets progress callbacks, but you also get a brand new constructor, $.Callbacks, that covers pretty much any need you may have when it comes to listing and firing callbacks in your application. Sounds too good to be true? Yet another thingy that's impossible to grasp? Fear not: Julian will walk you through it and make you the first persons in the world to know about $.Callbacks in and out!

So much information it was hard to take it all in so quickly. The live console output was great but hard to read at the bottom of the screen. Session content sparked my interest and left me wanting to learn more.

A lot of information about some pretty awesome functionality. Looking forward to diving right in and trying some of this out myself!

seems like it's an interesting concept, but having never worked with delegate b/c i have only used 1.4 i had no idea what was going on b/c knowledge of how delegate works was assumed!

Would have been better if the intro material connected this topic with something I already knew (like maybe basic event callbacks). Will look into this topic more but didn't get a lot out of the session unfortunately.

If you've never used deferreds before, you were most likely lost very quickly. This is an important topic that needs to be covered in stages.

Echoing some of the other reviews, it was hard to follow if you weren't already familiar with Deferreds. Given the short timeframe it's understandable, but a slide or two outlining the basics of Deferreds might have led to better understanding of the evolution.

Would have liked amore introductory talk about deferred and callbacks. However it made me think of how I can use this and I will be researching it more.

This subject is very interesting to me so it was unfortunate and a wasted opportunity that Julian presented each code fragment so quickly that few people on the room understood them. I asked lots of folk about it after and not one had understood.

I really found this talk was filled with great information, and there were some really good code samples showing the use cases for $.Callbacks

Interesting talk. I think deferred's will be even more interesting if they could tie into the 'progress' of an ajax request. Perhaps notfiy() triggering on all the various stages of a request. Either way, in a complex Ajax driven application deferred's look like a powerful tool.
