IE9: Power, Performance and Standards 2.42 http://spkr8.com/t/8623

Description:

It used to be easy for a browser maker: add your own features and developers will write code targeted to your browser. Things aren’t so simple anymore. Proprietary enhancements led to chaos, confusion, and incompatibility.

Proprietary features are out. Standards compliance is in. But in a world of web standards, what value can a browser maker add to stand apart? Microsoft’s answer to this problem: speed!

In this sponsored talk, Frank La Vigne will demonstrate how Internet Explorer 9 leverages Microsoft’s deep expertise in the underlying Windows platform to provide hardware acceleration for rich media and more powerful scripting, all while maintaining HTML5 standards compliance.

The bottom line is that your HTML5 sites and apps run faster on IE9, leaving you free to dream up bigger and bolder solutions for the web.

Classic IE, still failing to see the trends, and create a product that will be embraced by users. I think this presentation was just a reinforcement of custom features for windows 7 users, leaving out others. This was just the wrong salesman for this messege.

The demo of the fish was cool

i think he could have "sold" it more. talk more about the features and show more cool features.

He just said its all about the performance. with the speed comparison vs. chrome it made me think, who's going to design for IE9 when the other browsers can't handle all the power the website would require - it would run too slow.

i liked his presentation though. good speaker.

It is tough to present while lunch is being served, especially this specific subject to this crowd. A noble effort.

The presentation was marketing rhetoric and no substance.

difficult to engage audience with clanging of dishes, etc. - sitting near back could barely hear - so think speaker was done a disservice by having to speak during lunch.

Was willing to be open minded about this talk and was interested to hear how IE9 was going to make my life easier as a front end developer. Instead I couldn't help but focus on the Chrome bashing. Trust me, a couple of carefully crafted demos didn't convince me that IE9 is better than Chrome. I think this talk should have taken a different approach.

I would have appreciated more talk about IE9 and HTML5 standards, and less about how Chrome couldn't handle the IE-specific demo page. A lot of kudos for being willing to speak during lunch, however.
