MiniTest: Refactoring Test/Unit and RSpec back to version 0.0.1 5.0 http://spkr8.com/t/9571

Description:

MiniTest is the no-nonsense testing framework you already know how to use. If we strive for cleaner and simpler code in our own work, wouldn't it be nice to have that in our test framework too? Whether you're a Test Unit fan or RSpec fan, you'll feel right at home using MiniTest. Its simplicity makes it fast, easy to use, extendable, and maybe most importantly, easy to understand. Plus, Rails 4 uses MiniTest.

Loved the talk. I have a couple of projects where test really have become un-maintainable. I am not going to wait for a new project, but going to try moving to mintiest for any new functionally I add to these projects.

Very persuasive, especially the "under the covers" parts where you demonstrate how things are achieved. Amazing how much of what we consider "magic" in our tools can be replaced with trivial ruby code, as in the "def is my stubbing framework" example. I recently abandoned FactoryGirl in favor of Struct.new plus a few lets for this exact reason: simplicity. I am green-fielding an app at the moment and will use MiniTest instead of rspec. Well done.
