About Bill Sweeney
Bill Sweeney is the Director of Collaboration and Workplace Effectiveness in the CIO Office of the IBM Corporation. He is responsible for the strategy, technology evaluation and selection, and plan execution for IBM’s adoption of collaborative and social computing capabilities. In addition, Bill’s team is responsible for surveys, usage and satisfaction metrics, and analytics for corporate intranet applications.
Previously, Bill managed the corporate intranet portal technology and user experience. He also ran an internal skunk works team chartered to accelerate IBM’s adoption of emerging Internet technologies.
During his 30 years in IBM, Bill has held positions in hardware and software development, networking, services, and information technology. He was a Project Executive in charge of a large commercial outsourcing contract. He was also part of the Advantis team that launched IBM's first Internet services.
Bill earned an MS in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University, an MBA from Union College, an MAT from Sacred Heart University, and a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Connecticut.
Bill is a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Certified Project Management Professional. He is a member of advisory boards for the University of Connecticut Computer Science and Engineering Department and the Quinnipiac University Computer Information Systems Department.
