Testing is one of the things that sets a Rubyist apart from other developers. Ruby’s rich and powerful testing toolkit is one of the things that sets Ruby apart from other languages. We all are familiar with the ins-and-outs of testing web apps, but how might those apply to a different domain entirely? Telephony is an interesting problem domain because of its real-time nature, long-running sessions and constrained inputs and outputs. Testing it might seem impossible at first, but fortunately that is not the case. Thanks to tools like RSpec, Capistrano and Adhearsion, we can model the telephony world and accurately test it. This talk will be about those tools and techniques, but also more generally about applying trusted testing techniques to new test subjects.
