Ugh, your product manager wants to know how many users a day are using that four-point feature the team built last week, your database administrator wants to know under what circumstances that expensive query is being run, your operations guy is insisting that all user interactions are logged in perpetuity in the event of an incident and your CEO needs to understand what path users take before making a purchase -- and they all want it immediately. To respond to these requests we often try to cobble together using a variety web analytics tools, Rails.logger, databases and duct tape with varying degrees of success. In this talk we'll explore Kafka -- a durable messaging queue specifically built to buffer large amounts of data.
