In the past, digital collections have been hampered by inflexible technology platforms, unclear user needs, and one-size-fits-all interfaces. We will discuss the process of relaunching the Lester S. Levy Sheet Music Collection, a 21,000 item collection of scanned sheet music of diverse genres, topics, composers and ages. Through this process, we worked with content experts to develop user stories, built an information architecture through real-time group wireframing, and iterated on prototypes until we reached a final product that combines advanced researching capabilities with an extremely browsable, responsive interface.
