Web Sockets are a standardized form of bidirectional communication between the browser and server. They are easy to implement, fun to intact with, and probably cleaner than the AJAX hack you probably have in place. Now that Web Socket support is included in every modern browser, it's time to use them. This is a 100-200 level introduction to what Web Sockets are, how to implement them, and what caveats you need to know about.
