There is a significant amount of momentum in the non-relational database space right now. Some of it is hype, but a lot consists of developers and engineers trying to see if there is a mechanism for web application storage that trumps a traditional relational database. As of right now, there is no definitive non-relational data store solution – instead there are a handful of solutions competing furiously. The goal of my talk is to explain the advantages and disadvantages of non-relational databases, as well as touch on some of the common themes and principals. I’d also like to demo how CouchDB and MongoDB could be used to solve certain problems in our environment.
