This session will examine the theory and practice of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to increase citizen participation. We will look at future trends, including GIS data transparency, tapping citizen-volunteered geographic information, and using GIS to enhance citizen participation in decision making. We will also showcase some of the current offerings from Washington, DC's GIS practice.
