Physical spaces, as envisioned and created by designers, often convey a unique sense of place and purpose — think of the experience one has in a hospital, university, or office building. These spaces are immersive by nature, but they are also often impersonal and separate from us; we have experiences in these environments. With iBeacon, we can have experiences with our environments, dynamically engaging with brands and other individuals in that space. iBeacon allows apps on your iPhone to perform micro-location indoors. That is, iBeacon creates short-range proximity awareness, enhancing the ability of users to interact directly with environments. iBeacon can not only enhance our experience of the spaces we inhabit, it can also fundamentally alter our relationship with the organizations and brands that own those spaces. This presentation will cover: - What iBeacon is, how it works, and why it matters - How iBeacon can enhance the experience of spaces and locations - Getting Started: Some Pros & Cons
