After submitting four unsuccessful RFPs for a new content management system for our college website, we reviewed our desired features and decided to build our own. Now, almost two years later, we are confident that we made the right decision for our institution.
This session will explore the process of building a good list of wants and needs for a CMS and successfully evaluating whether you want to buy an enterprise system, use an existing open source solution, or build your own. We will briefly review some of the pros and cons of building a custom solution. Throughout this session, we will use examples of the process we used and the lessons we learned.
