What are the impact of social norms on behaviours and attitudes? Do people behave in a certain way because they believe others expect them to do so, rather than because they actually believe it’s right? Changing social behaviours such as binge drinking, unsafe sexual activity, domestic violence, etc come under focus in a project funded by the Department for International Development in Nigeria where a model of behavioural change has been developed which takes account of cultural pressures, and looks at where there has been success in bringing about change in behaviour.
