Gartner predicted on 2/12/2015: “By 2020, information will be used to reinvent, digitalize or eliminate 80% of business processes and products from a decade earlier.”

Automation is all around. The Grid creates a website that designs itself based on the input you give it. We seem to live in a golden age of marketing software if you believe Scott Brinker. The buzz surrounding the Internet of Things makes businesses dream of gigantic market opportunities.

Yet, the day-to-day user experience is not improving in huge steps. The recommendations by Amazon used to be an awe inspiring feature but fails to successfully integrate serendipity. Fitness trackers are quite popular with Apple weighing in this year as well but abandonment is relatively high. Numerous brands got into serious damage after automated tweets sent out the wrong message: “we don’t really listen, we’re just robots”.

In this lightning talk I want to talk about how to cope with the ever more and complex information sources that can and will be used in day-to-day user experiences. As an IA this requires to go down the rabbit hole of those information sources. And these could well be robot rabbits down that hole. Will knowledge of algorithms, human-made or ‘genetical’, become part of the T-model?
