Over the past five years, so-called orbital content has become the expectation for savvy consumers making use of tools like Instapaper and Readability. More recently, Open Graph protocol and Instant Articles on Facebook further shift the paradigm away from content that’s singularly associated with one publisher.

But there’s a silver lining: Making smart use of APIs and purpose-built micro applications, web folk are making easy-to-manage channels of diverse, relevant and branded content for their audiences.

In the University/Museum/Library setting, establishing a simple content strategy that takes full advantage of news feeds, Google alerts, geolocation and social influencers can make maintaining a digital channel the most interesting part of your job. We’ll discuss untapped sources, navigating governance concerns, available tools and striking the right balance between creation and curation.

What you’ll learn: •New tools and technologies for capturing orbital content •How to navigate the shifting sands of social APIs •Tips for reducing the strain on internal content creators
