A great advancement of SharePoint 2010 was the integration of Windows Identity Foundation (WIF). With WIF, authorization woes of large organizations quickly become a thing of the past. However, for organizations who have not setup WIF, switching to this model may seem like a daunting task. This session will show that it's a lot easier than it looks. I will briefly discuss what claims are and how it replaces the traditional authorization model. From there, I will show how easily SharePoint integrates with a custom security token service and what looks different when using claims-based authentication. I will wrap up by extend that example to ADFS 2.0 and show how it's still possible to leverage existing Active Directory roles within the organization as well as create new claims.
