Designing for average no longer works. Instead, we should be designing for extremes. And people with disabilities are great examples of extreme users. Audio books, the typewriter, remote controls, OXO grips were all designed for disability but ended up being loved by everyone. This is because when we design for disability, we create the super powers that we all want – to do more, hear more, see more, go further. We learn how to create ability in the absence of natural human ability. During this session, Elise shares personal stories and design principles and examples to encourage participants to explore the concept of how designing for disability helps us develop solutions that are better than when we design for the norm.
